Solidarity Statement on the Violence in Israel and Gaza

As the AAAL Executive Committee, we are deeply saddened by the deaths and suffering of civilians, including children, in both Israel and Gaza since October 7, 2023. There is no excuse for the harming or killing of innocent civilians. The AAAL EC stands in solidarity with AAAL members and their families and loved ones who are directly or indirectly impacted by the ongoing conflict, trauma, and violence. We want to remind ourselves that AAAL is committed to building and sustaining just and equitable conditions for individuals, communities, and societies. To achieve this mission, we must promote mutual understanding, respect, and empathy to build compassionate discourse and peaceful relationships through our work on language teaching and research. We hope for peace and healing in the days to come.
