This strand deals with issues related to deliberative efforts to control, manage, prescribe, or influence behavior through the promotion or restriction of languages/language varieties. Traditionally, language planning focuses on corpus, status, and acquisition planning. The LPP strand also addresses the role of agency (e.g., governmental, non-governmental, community, and individual) in determining or influencing language policies and practices, as well as the role of the ideologies, attitudes, and beliefs that shape them. The LPP strand also considers the implications and consequences of policies, prescriptions, and practices within a variety of social, economic, educational, and political domains as well as issues related to language rights.
