Analysis of Discourse and Interaction (DIS)

This strand features qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods empirical research that is broadly concerned with talk and other forms of social interaction. Possible topics could include (but are not limited to) analyses of face-to-face and/or (synchronous or asynchronous) computer- and other forms of technology-mediated communication. Such interactions occur in so-called naturalistic contexts and/or institutional settings (e.g., classrooms, courts, doctors' offices), as well as research interviews, the media, Youtube, and many more. Studies might be (linguistic) ethnographies featuring detailed analyses of talk, narrative analyses, conversation analyses, membership categorization analyses, discursive psychological research, interactional sociolinguistic studies, critical discourse analyses, Foucauldian genealogical analyses, and/or systemic functional analyses, among other possibilities.
