This strand features presentations that report on analyses of spoken and written texts using corpus-based methodology, in which principled, representative collections of texts are examined through the aid of computers. Analyses should be quantitative in nature, allowing researchers to study a greater number of texts and more features than in other approaches to text analysis. However, qualitative methods (e.g., move analysis, critical discourse analysis, interview data) may be used in conjunction with the quantitative analysis. Researchers may identify central tendencies and compare features statistically. Presentations may include analyses of grammar, vocabulary, lexico-grammar, phraseology, prosody, stylistics, or keyness, and may focus on contrastive analyses of register, L1 background, developmental levels, and more. Presentations may also focus on corpus construction and the use of corpus-based methodologies in pedagogy and teacher training.
