Online Education and Outreach Committee (OEOC)

About the OEOC

The Committee for Online Education and Outreach (OEOC) is an important means by which AAAL can provide opportunities for learning and engagement that is not tied to an in-person context. The OEOC is charged with ensuring AAAL is digitally accessible and provides opportunities for online education and connection. This is done by:

  1. Generating or overseeing generation of digital content, including but not limited to videos, webinars, white papers, and other resources which can be made available on the AAAL web site
  2. Identifying web content for members who cannot attend AAAL regularly but value its scholarly community
  3. Overseeing online member networking efforts
  4. Ensuring sustainability for Committee’s initiatives and operations
  5. Other initiatives of the Committee’s generating

The OEOC is comprised of five different subcommittees with the following roles:

  • AAALetter - The AAALetter Subcommittee seeks to maintain and develop a community of AAAL members and provide means for exchanging information between the Executive Committee (EC), Standing Committees, Graduate Student Council, and the AAAL membership. Their main project is to produce AAAL’s official newsletter.
  • Professional Development - The Professional Development Subcommittee seeks to strengthen engagement among AAAL members by providing avenues for professional development in the core academic areas of scholarship, teaching, and service. Their main projects include planning and hosting interactive workshops and managing a forthcoming AAAL Professional Development blog.
  • Social Media - The Social Media Subcommittee seeks to increase AAAL’s presence and accessibility, supporting the mission of AAAL and facilitating its community building by connecting people via various forms of social media. Their main project is to administer AAAL’s social media accounts.
  • Webinar - The Webinar Subcommittee seeks to engage members and non-members in professional dialogue. Their main project is to organize and host AAAL’s official webinars held throughout the year.
  • Website and Content - The Website and Content Subcommittee seeks to maintain, evaluate, and create content for the AAAL website in order to facilitate engagement and connection within the AAAL community. Their main project is to develop content hosted on AAAL’s official website, including the AAAL Oral History Project which features many members of AAAL.
