Alternative Accommodations

Accommodation in the Washington D.C. area is difficult to obtain at reasonable rates. This is particularly the case during “cherry blossom” season, which coincides with the dates of the AAAL conference. Most of the large hotels that are centrally located in the DC area are more expensive than the conference rate we have obtained at the Omni Shoreham.

Nonetheless, the conference organizing committee is making every effort to find alternative accommodation. This will include ‘crash space’ for students attending the conference as well as information about hotels/motels that are outside the centre of Washington but on the metro line. We have also managed to locate a few hotels, guest houses and bed & breakfasts that are located more centrally with fairly reasonable rates (ranging from $99.00 – 219.00). These are listed below under the heading "Alternate Accommodation Central Locations".

It is important to book early in order to get the best rates and to ensure that you have a room during a very busy season in D.C.

Student Crash Space

If you are a graduate student looking for crash space for the conference, please contact Rebecca Sachs at redbeeka@aol.com. For anyone who is not familiar with the term "crash space" it means that you would be staying in the apartment/home of another graduate student (or possibly a professor) who has volunteered to host someone during the conference. You can also send a message to this address if you would like to share a hotel room and we will do our best to put you in touch with someone (of the same sex) who is also looking for a roommate so that you can make your own arrangements together. Please include in your email the number of other people you would like to share a room with (1, 2, or 3). Please contact Rebecca as early as possible; we will do our best to accommodate interested students on a first-come-first-served basis. Please understand that we will may not be able to accommodate everyone.
