- AAAL 2003 CONFERENCE WILL GO
ON AS PLANNED - In light of the current international situation, we want
to assure you that the AAAL conference is proceeding forward as planned. There
are no plans to cancel the conference. We believe and expect that it will
be possible to have a good, even excellent AAAL conference in spite of the
circumstances. We look forward to seeing you in Arlington.

- Rooms at the Sheraton National
Hotel are basically fully booked for the conference dates. If you wish to
stay in the conference hotel, contact them directly to check on current availability
(see Venue section). There may be cancellations.

- IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING OPENING/CLOSING
OF THE CONFERENCE: Registration for the 2003 AAAL Conference will begin
Friday evening, March 21, and the conference itself will begin at 9 am on
Saturday, March 22, 2003 with a full schedule of colloquia, individual papers
and posters, in addition to a joint AAAL/ILTA session on the theme of New
Voices in Applied Linguistics and Language Testing. Please note this
change from previous years (in recent years, only the AAAL/ILTA session was
scheduled for Saturday morning). The conference will end at 5:30 pm on Tuesday,
March 25.
Other conferences of interest
immediately preceding and following AAAL:
- The East
Coast Organization of Language Testers (ECOLT) will hold its second annual
conference on Thursday and Friday, March 20 and 21, 2003, immediately preceding
AAAL. The theme of this years conference is U.S. Trends in Language
Testing for Accountability and Security. ECOLT represents an East Coast
group of professionals, scholars, and students who are involved in language
testing projects and research. One of the organization's goals is to support
connections among academia, government, and not-for-profit testing organizations.
In addition to providing a forum for continued learning and networking, ECOLT
strongly supports the work of graduate students.
