Airports
in the Washington DC area
- Ronald
Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) -- the official Reagan National
Airport website. Reagan National is the nearest airport to the conference
hotel (only minutes away!). There is a free shuttle service to and from the
Sheraton National Hotel from Reagan National Airport. (Be
sure to take the shuttle for the Sheraton National Hotel --there are several
other Sheraton hotels in the vicinity, each with its own shuttle.)
- Washington
Dulles International Airport (IAD) -- this is the official Dulles Airport
website.
- Washington
Dulles Airport (IAD) -- this site has information on travel to and from
Washington Dulles Airport including taxi, train, and bus transportation; it
also has a DC Metro map.
- Baltimore/Washington
International Airport (BWI) -- this is the official BWI airport website.
For transportation, go to Ground Transportation on the left side and scroll
down to Washington DC.
Discount
airfares
The AAAL Business Office has been
able to arrange discounted fares for conference attendees through Delta Airlines.
Please note that there is no guarantee that these will be the cheapest flights,
however, if AAAL members and conference attendees would like to utilize this
service, they may do so. The instructions are listed below for Delta:

- Inform the representative of the
travel destination and dates
- Inform the representative you
will be attending the conference for the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR APPLIED
LINGUISTICS (AAAL).

For those of you interested in discounted
fares on Southwest Airlines, call them directly at 1-800-I-FLY-SWA
(1-800-435-9792) and request the group discount for the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION

Directions
SHERATON
NATIONAL HOTEL MAP
BY CAR:
- If
you're driving in from the north, take ST295 Baltimore
Washington Parkway South to US50 West New York Avenue. Follow this 6.5 miles
and stay in the left lane after going over the RR tracks. Follow the signs
left to I-395 South. Bear to the right and follow the exit for I-395 Richmond.
Go over the 14th Street Bridge, exit at Washington Blvd./Ridge Road. Follow
this a quarter of a mile to the 244 east Columbia PIke/Navy Annex Exit. This
will place you directly in front of the hotel.
- If you're driving
in from the south, take
I-395 North to Exit 8A - Washington Blvd. Once on Washington Blvd., immediately
get into the extreme right hand lane and take the Columbia Pike/Navy Annex
Exit. This will place you directly in front of the hotel.
- If you're driving
in from the west, follow Rt. 66 East toward Washington. Take the exit
for Rt. 110 and the Pentagon. Follow Rt. 110 to the Washington Blvd. Exit.
Once on Washington Blvd., take the 2nd exit for Columbia Pike/Navy Annex.
This will place you directly in front of the hotel.
- If you're driving
in from west of the Capital Beltway, take I-495 South to the George Washington
Parkway. Follow the Parkway for approximately 8 miles to the exit for 395
South and 27 (Lyndon B. Johnson Exit). Stay to your right at the fork. This
will place you on 295 South. Stay to the right and take Exit 244 West Columbia
Pike/Navy Annex. Follow the road through two lights; hotel is on your right
directly past 2nd light.
BY METRO:
- From the Pentagon City
metro station (yellow and blue lines), you can catch a shuttle to the hotel.
Be sure to take the shuttle for the Sheraton National Hotel --there are several
other Sheraton hotels in the vicinity, each with its own shuttle.
FROM
BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON
INTERNATIONAL (BWI) AIRPORT:
- BY TRAIN: from outside
the baggage claim area, take a shuttle bus to the BWI train station and proceed
to Washington DC (Union Station) by either MARC (a commuter train that runs
weekdays only, $5 one way or $8.75 round trip) or AMTRAK (every day, $24-$31
one way, reservations required, 1-900-USA-RAIL or www.amtrak.com).
From Union Station, either take a cab to the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington
or transfer to the metro system and proceed to the Pentagon City station.
The hotel will be operating a regular shuttle from the Pentagon City metro
stop. Be sure to take the shuttle for the Sheraton National Hotel --there
are several other Sheraton hotels in the vicinity, each with its own shuttle.
- BY BUS & METRO COMBINATION:
from outside the baggage claim area, take the BWI Express Metro Bus to the
Greenbelt metro station (green line) and transfer to the yellow line (at Mt.
Vernon, Gallery or L'Enfant Plaza) for Pentagon City. The hotel will be operating
a regular shuttle from the Pentagon City metro stop. Be sure to take the shuttle
for the Sheraton National Hotel --there are several other Sheraton hotels
in the vicinity, each with its own shuttle.
- Taxi service (approximately
$50-60, time varies greatly depending on traffic) and SuperShuttle service
is also available.
FROM
WASHINGTON
DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (IAD):
- BY BUS & METRO COMBINATION:
The Washington Flyer Coach (Arrivals Level, at Door #4, operating every 30
minutes from 5:30 a.m. to midnight weekdays and 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. weekends)
connects to the West Falls Church metro station (orange line). At the Rosslyn
stop, transfer to the blue line for Pentagon City. The hotel will be operating
a regular shuttle from the Pentagon City metro stop.
Be sure to take
the shuttle for the Sheraton National Hotel --there are several other Sheraton
hotels in the vicinity, each with its own shuttle.
